Hamilton Mausoleum
Hamilton Palace Mausoleum is a remarkable domed structure, which was the resting place of the family of the Dukes of Hamilton and is located in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland.
The mausoleum can be seen from the M74 motorway but very few actually know what the building is and many have never been inside it.I recently went on one of the tours organised by Low Parks Museum staff and you get to see the amazing interior of the Mausoleum, which you cannot help but be amazed by. It is such a beautiful building.
The Mausoleum has the longest-lasting echo of any building in the world and is famous for the "whispering wa's (walls!)". Two people can stand at either end of one of the curved interior walls, facing away from each other into the niche of the wall, and hold a whispered conversation. The remarkable acoustics of the walls project the sound eerily (and unbelievabily clearly!) to the listener at the other side and when you try it for yourself, it really freaks you out but is fascinating at the same time.
If you are in/around the area (its not very far from the centre of Glasgow by car) then you will not be disappointed (and at £1.50 entry fee, I am surprised more people don't go).
I assure you it will be one of those experiences you will not forget anytime soon.
